Kenton

Kenton is a most unique town, it sits on the border of Gibson and Obion Counties and enjoys being a THREE STAR COMMUNITY from both counties. There is an elementary school in Kenton. Students in middle school are bused to nearby Rutherford and high school students are bused to Dyer - all schools are part of the Gibson County School District. For more information see the EDUCATION section.

The City of Kenton has a 30 area industrial site located in Obion County. The site sits on rail and is adjacent to US45-W. For more information on this site, see SITES & BUILDINGS (under Obion County-Kenton).

Kenton proudly calls itself "The Home of the White Squirrel." Various stories are told of how the unique squirrels first came to this small town, but whatever the reason, the squirrels have continued to thrive in Kenton.

Families of white squirrels live in most parts of the town. Special laws and fines protect the treasured animals and each year the city celebrates the special animals with the Kenton White Squirrel Homecoming in July.

The city also celebrates with a Christmas parade. For more information on both of these events, see the ACTIVITIES & EVENTS section.
