Rutherford was the home of Davy Crockett prior to his departure to Texas and his tragic death at the Alamo on March 6, 1836. Here you can visit the replica of his cabin (built with logs from the original cabin) and the grave of his mother, Rebecca Hawkins Crockett. Rutherford celebrates their famous frontiersman with a festival in early October each year with old-fashioned music, arts and crafts, costumes and a parade. Rutherford boasts a city park and a public swimming pool (contact city hall for hours of operation). In addition to its distinct shopping area, the town is the home of Kellwood Outlet ( the original factory outlet store). For bus tours and more information on Kellwood Outlet (located at 441 North Trenton St. in Rutherford), contact the store personnel at (731) 665-6187.
